Create an exactly 18-slide PowerPoint presentation titled **"Oligopoly: Market Structure, Strategic Behaviour and Price Determination"** for a 30-minute undergraduate Microeconomics class. **SLIDE STRUCTURE** 1. Title slide with subtitle and presenter details. 2. Introduction: definition, importance and familiar industry examples. 3. Characteristics: few dominant firms, interdependence, entry barriers, pricing power and competition. 4. Mutual interdependence: how one firm's decisions influence its rivals. 5. Barriers to entry: economies of scale, capital, brand loyalty and network effects. 6. Price versus non-price competition: discounts, advertising, innovation and differentiation. 7. Price rigidity: explain why prices may remain stable without introducing the kinked demand curve. 8. Cournot model: definition, assumptions and simultaneous quantity decisions. 9. Cournot model mechanics: reaction functions and firms' output choices. 10. Cournot equilibrium: correctly labelled reaction-function graph and Nash equilibrium. 11. Numerical example: derive the Cournot equilibrium using the equations below. 12. Interpretation: equilibrium output, market price, profits and strategic interdependence. 13. Cournot model: strengths, assumptions and limitations. 14. Indian telecommunications case study: pricing, infrastructure and strategic competition. 15. Smartphone industry case study: differentiation, innovation, branding and pricing. 16. Advantages and disadvantages of oligopoly. 17. Compare oligopoly, monopoly and perfect competition; briefly explain the Competition Commission of India's role. 18. Conclusion, two discussion questions and thank-you message. **COURNOT NUMERICAL EXAMPLE** Assume inverse demand P = 100 − Q, where Q = q₁ + q₂. Both firms have constant marginal cost MC = 20 and zero fixed costs. Profit functions: π₁ = (P − 20)q₁; π₂ = (P − 20)q₂. Reaction functions: q₁ = (80 − q₂)/2 q₂ = (80 − q₁)/2 Equilibrium: q₁ = q₂ = 80/3; Q = 160/3; P = 140/3. Profit per firm = 711.11. **STRICT EXCLUSIONS:** Cournot must be the only formal oligopoly model. Exclude Bertrand, Stackelberg, the kinked demand curve, cartels and dedicated collusion content. **DESIGN:** Use a premium academic style with deep navy, off-white and teal accents. Include readable equations, accurate economic graphs, strategic flowcharts, comparison tables and relevant industry visuals. Avoid crowded slides and excessive text. Use concise bullet points and presenter notes where possible. Explain theory accurately, verify all calculations, and distinguish textbook assumptions from real-world observations. Use reliable sources for current industry examples and Indian competition regulation. Generate exactly 18 complete slides, not an outline.
Presentation overview
This community presentation was shared by davin cicanda as a complete 18-slide example. Create an exactly 18-slide PowerPoint presentation titled **"Oligopoly: Market Structure, Strategic Behaviour and Price Determination"** for a 30-minute undergraduate Microecono… The preview lets you review the full sequence in order, rather than judging the design from a single cover image.
Use it as a reference for planning your own deck: notice how the amount of information changes from slide to slide, where visual emphasis appears, and how repeated design choices help the presentation feel connected. Community examples are inspiration, not locked templates, so you can keep the ideas that fit your audience and replace anything that does not.
Learn from the example
Look at the job each slide performs. Identify where the deck introduces its subject, develops the main points, adds evidence or examples, and moves toward a conclusion.
Notice which element attracts attention first and how headings, supporting text, images, and data are separated. Strong hierarchy makes the intended reading order obvious.
Compare spacing, typography, color, and repeated components across the slides. Consistent rules help varied content feel like one presentation instead of unrelated screens.
Make it your own
Begin with your audience and the decision, lesson, or action the presentation should support. Replace the topic, examples, evidence, and visuals with material you can verify, then edit every slide for one clear takeaway. You can borrow the visual direction without copying the creator's wording or message. Presenton will use this community deck as a design reference while you develop content for your own purpose.
