# SkillBridge: latest summary (23 October 2026)
## 1. What it is
SkillBridge started as **SkillBridge Campus**, an accessibility-first career platform for university students and recent graduates, with the tagline "Ability Without Barriers." It was positioned as a better opportunity platform that includes people with disabilities from the start, not a separate system.
The latest documentation (v2.0) narrows it into **SkillBridge Neuro**, a career launchpad for neurodivergent students and graduates in Kenya. Its signature feature is the **Cyber-Onboarding & ClearTask Simulator**, where learners practise real work tasks with clear goals, steps, deadlines and rubric feedback. Finished work becomes portfolio evidence.
## 2. Your target architecture
You want a system covering all ages, with six areas plus portfolios:
1. **Registration and login** with date of birth (calendar), age and gender.
2. **Roadmaps** in the style of roadmap.sh, giving each learner clear goals.
3. **Mentorship**, where partners create profiles and guide learners until they get work.
4. **Opportunities:** remote jobs, full-time jobs, scholarships and other listings.
5. **Community** for discussion.
6. **AI assistant** for one-to-one guidance and matching to opportunities based on the portfolio.
7. **Public portfolio profiles** to display achievements.
## 3. Changes I recommended, and why
- **Age tiers (child, teen, adult)** with guardian approval for under-18s, because children's data needs stricter handling under Kenya's Data Protection Act (confirm exact requirements with a lawyer).
- **Collect less at registration:** date of birth, display name and optional fields only, and never a diagnosis.
- **Mentors don't select children.** Learners or guardians choose a vetted mentor, and the mentor accepts.
- **Build your own roadmap engine** rather than copying roadmap.sh, and check its licence before reusing anything.
- **Launch with 18+ first**, then 13–17 with guardian consent, then under-13s.
- **MVP scope:** one track first (cybersecurity access-list review), and defer AI until the core loop is validated.
## 4. Partnerships
- **Why now:** Kenya's Persons with Disabilities Act, 2025 requires employers with 20 or more staff to reserve 5% of jobs for persons with disabilities and report annually to NCPWD. Only 1.8% of public sector staff are persons with disabilities.
- **Partner types:** skills specialists (cybersecurity, data annotation), disability and support organisations, employers and mentors, and universities and TVETs.
- **Government targets:** NCPWD, ICT programmes, public universities, and the Data Protection Commissioner for guidance.
- **Open legal question:** whether neurodivergence without a formal diagnosis is covered by the Act, and how the quota interacts with your no-diagnosis principle.
## 4a. Ideas backlog (ranked)
1. ClearBrief checker for employers (rule-based job-brief review)
2. "Working with me" card, user-authored and private by default
3. Verified evidence packs with partner sign-off
4. Async inbox simulation
5. Paid micro-task bridge
6. Interview passport, low-bandwidth mode, and an AI "gap detector"
## 5. What exists now
| Deliverable | Status |
|---|---|
| Restructure and implementation plan | Claude Doc, covering a six-document structure and a 12-week pilot plan (M0–M5) |
| Open-source references | Claude Doc listing mentorship, roadmap and matching repositories |
| Flask starter (`skillbridge_starter.zip`) | Runs, 5 passing tests: age-tier registration, roadmaps, mentor request-and-accept, opportunities, moderated community, private portfolios, rule-based assistant stub |
| 10-slide pitch deck | Published, with a `[Contact details]` placeholder on the last slide |
| Web development plan | Sprint plan with Flask, server-rendered pages and accessibility testing |
## 6. Not built yet
- Email verification, password reset and rate limiting
- Under-13 accounts created by guardians
- Mentor vetting screen and guardian view of sessions
- Alembic migrations and PostgreSQL
- The ClearTask simulator itself
- Application tracking, and Kiswahili and low-bandwidth modes
## 7. Open decisions
- Launch age band and pilot cohort
- Which first track to build
- Whether and when to add AI
- Portfolio defaults
- The legal position on the Act and children's data
## Ranked next steps
1. Get legal advice on children's data, guardian consent and the Act's definition of disability.
2. Decide the launch age band (I recommend 18+) and the first track.
3. Write the ClearTask template schema and one complete task as data.
4. Add email verification and the mentor vetting screen to the starter.
5. Recruit one university or TVET partner, a disability organisation, and two employers.
6. Request an introductory meeting with NCPWD, bringing the pilot plan.
I can put this summary into a Claude Doc if you'd like to keep or share it.
